Here are the steps involved when I paint, this is kinda a mess since I usually am trying out new things as I go. 

I'm not going to describe every step, some are just half steps, or more of the same, but I thought to include them so you can see my whole work flow. 

1. I start with line art, like most people I suppose. 
2. I then put in a medium grey background color for the canvas and on a multiply layer I start painting in greys and blacks. (picked up this technique from ) 
3. I add a black mask around the figure at this point so I can paint freely around the edges without worrying about keeping her forms correct.
4. Start adding in highlights and add in the first pass of her hair. 
5. On a soft light layer I begin to add colors to her plug suit, and on a clipping mask layer I add in the soft light for her hair.
6. More color correcting for her suit, I had a hard time picking colors for this one. Her highlights all started as a blue green, went to red, then to blue. 7. 
7.At this point I add in her EVA controls, cockpit chair, and window dressings, 
8. Add EVA Unit 00 in the background
9. AAAAAAAAnd thats basically it, fiddled with lighting layers and color adjustments until I was satisfied / sick of looking at it.
